If you have an XO laptop [1], or are just interested in seeing how they work, come on down to SF State [2] campus for a get together on July 19, 2008. If you have an XO or two (or several), bring them! Have [grand]kids who like XOs? Bring them too! Our campus is quite friendly. Don't have an XO? Download a LiveCD from http://dev.laptop.org/pub/livebackupcd/ [3] or simply bring your enthusiasm.

What: OLPC-SF July 2008 meeting
Why: Meet Christoph Derndorfer [5], who will present on
- grassroots activities at OLPC Austria and in Europe in general
- current state of OLPC, latest developments and a brief look ahead on the coming months.
Christoph is studying computer science at the Vienna University of Technology and for the past few years, he has contributed to a variety of online technology publications. Among other things, he has covered leading industry events such as CeBIT, Computex, and VIA Technology Forum, conducted extensive hardware reviews and published countless articles on small and power-efficient computer systems. Since early 2007 he has been involved in the OLPC community, initially by writing articles for olpcnews.com [6] before later becoming the Web site's co-editor in mid-2008. He is also a member of OLPC Austria, has co-authored the group's Activity Handbook on learning how to write activities for the XO-laptop and held numerous presentations on OLPC in both Austria and Germany.
Other activities: Build a mesh network, share activities, generate crazy ideas. We also have a schoolserver configured and running complete with active antenna [7]. This allows you to mesh with the server (or your nearest XO) and route to the Internet! We will also look at some low-powered schoolserver platforms and solar power for the XO. If you need to upgrade your XO's software build, we can do that at the meeting as well.
